Fighter's Zone
We currently have a team of Muay Thai fighters, fighting out of the Lumpini Gym, but we hope to also produce a team of MMA fighters and White Collar Boxers in the near future.
Lumpini Muay Thai, have been producing fighters for many years. We have been the trainers of Area, English, British, European and World Champions. Muay Thai is considered the hardest stand up fighting art in the world, and is a full contact sport. With contacts around the World we are able to get fights across the globe for our fighters.
Lumpini promotions is also an umbrella organisation of Lumpini Muay Thai and considered one of the largest promotion companies of Muay Thai, organising events in London and more recently Southampton.
You want to compete, what to expect? - Muay Thai
There are no set guidelines to how long you must have been training for, but most will wait at least a year until a 'C' class fight, but there are those that train hard pick up the skills very quickly and have been out on interclubs within 3 months.
If you are interested in competing, you can attend our fighters class. You must also spar and train on a regular basis.
Fighting Standards:
There are different levels of Muay Thai competitions, these are as follows (adults only, juniors please ask an instructor for further details):
Novice/Interclubs:
These are entry level competitions and give people a taste of competitions. These are small competitions, where you will be matched against someone of similar experience and weight. It is a controlled fight and the idea is to gain experience, not knock each other out. The bout will be controlled by a referree, who will also instruct you to ease back the power if the fight is becoming one-sided.
No elbows/knees allowed to the head
There is no winner/loser in these contests and you will be required to wear 16oz gloves, gumshield, headguard, groin guard and shinpads. Sometimes you may also be required to wear body armour.
3x1.5-2minute rounds
Novice/C-Class:
These are judged bouts and a winner/loser will be decided. These are full contact bouts with no elbows/knees allowed to the head. With the exception of groin guard/gum shield, the only protection you wear is either 8oz or 10oz gloves dependent on your weight. You will be matched against someone the same weight and experience. You can win by points or by KO, TKO.
3x2minute rounds
B-Class:
As like the above C-class, but for people with more experience, normally after 4-5 fights you will step up to B-class, this is where you can start competing for Area, English, British titles etc.
These are judged bouts and a winner/loser will be decided. These are full contact bouts with no elbows/knees allowed to the head. With the exception of groin guard/gum shield, the only protection you wear is either 8oz or 10oz gloves dependent on your size. You will be matched against someone the same weight and experience. You can win by points or by KO, TKO.
5x2minute rounds
A-Class:
These fights are for those at the top of the game and where most switch to FTR (Full Thai Rules) which are knees and elbows allowed to the head.
5x2minute rounds or 5x3minute rounds for FTR and World Titles.
Amateur:
Amateur competitions require full body protection armour - gloves, shinpads, headguard, body armour, elbow pads and are scored on a accumulative points system as like amatuer boxing. In some competitions, knees and elbows to the head are allowed and those who are successful can go on to represent the UK in the World Amatuer Games in Thailand.
